Owner of Two Board Gals TX, Kristen

Starting off 2023 with another one of my high school friends! I love this part of the blogs so much. It is amazing to see people I grew up with and hung out with (before any of us knew what we would actually be doing in life) starting their own businesses and having big dreams! So up on deck… Two Board Gals TX! Serving up delicious charcuterie and more, let’s dive on in…

Two Board Gals started out their venture not even a year ago! They are fresh out of the small business gate, but have made their mark already. It all started in July of 2022 with two friends, Kristen and Katie – the TWO Board Gals! The two friends were looking for more than their regular day-to-day jobs, wanting a creative outlet and to have some good girl time. After a few other ideas had been thrown around, the idea of a charcuterie company came up. Within a few hours they had their name, logo, and knew that this was the right move and idea. Two Board Gals was run for 5 months by the two friends, but in November Katie had to take a step back (don’t worry, they’re still friends!) and the company is now operated solely by Kristen. She says not to worry, the name will always be the same!

Grazing Table by Two Board Gals TX for about 20 people

The products range from individual cups to trays serving 1-2 and all the way up to grazing tables for events! The products are all perfectly named too: The Howdy, Hotter Than a Hoochie Coochie, Lonesome Dove, The Texan, The Sugar Rush (for the kids!), and other fun, creative names. I have had charcuterie cups at the farmers market, gifted boxes to friends and clients, and had her serve a baby shower my friends and I were hosting. Every little detail is perfectly thought out. From product and variety, to display, neat additions, and more. The grazing table for the baby shower not only had charcuterie but had specialty jams, vegetables and dips, dipped items in the shower colors, and display pieces to accentuate it all. The details are never overlooked and that is something Kristin prides herself on.

All of that effort is something Kristen loves, but also wants people to see and understand what goes on. She says she spends a lot of time behind the scenes thinking through the curation of each box or board for a client…what would they like, what would their guests like, what items will pair the best with others, mixing basic palette pleasers with fancier and more off the wall items. She says she is constantly thinking about it all and sometimes over-analyzing her work, but pleasing her clients is the moment in this business that she loves the most. When asked her favorite moment so far of Two Board Gals, she says that it is always when she gets feedback from a client that they absolutely loved her product or that the guests at a party were happy. She says she tends to second guess herself a lot and knowing that her time spent creating and thinking out the product paid off really validates her in what she is doing with the business.

She truly wants people to be happy. To Kristen it is more than just charcuterie. She cares about the people and loves getting to meet the people she serves and to create something special for them or their special moment. Being a part of their lives and their days is fulfilling and makes all of the hard work worth it!

Juggling this business with her normal full-time job has been hard. The behind the scenes work of handling all the pieces from planning to admin work, to the shopping, prep, & cleanup, plus her personal life has been hard to manage at times. She says it’s a lot, but she loves it. She just wants people to know that it is hard and trying at times, and it’s much more than what people see on social media or the plates in front of them, but she loves what she does!

Though only 7 months in, Two Board Gals TX is looking to the future! Kristen wants to establish a more consistent clientele base, where she is getting to produce boxes and boards on a more regular basis, but also get to branch out into events more as well. She would love to see the grazing tables take off, to where she can go create for larger events such as weddings, birthdays, showers, and other parties/celebrations. With the spreads she makes, I see this being very doable in the near future! Like I said earlier, it’s more than meats, cheese, and crackers. There is this one spicy jam she uses that I am completely obsessed with for starters, but there’s also vegetables, fruits, stuffed peppers, dipped strawberries and pretzels, and SO. MUCH. MORE. She truly has the best variety.
