Sisters Boutique & Gifts - The Original
Well the day is here! I have had this article ready to go and under my sleeve for a while now. I have been working with Sisters since November when they approached me about the purchase of the old Wilson Memorial Hospital here in Floresville (I’m a local Realtor® in case you didn’t know!), so I am here to tell you all about them, their business, and their goals for the future and our town! Buckle up, because here we go!
Sisters Boutique and Gifts - The Original, was opened in 1990. Annette Maha was one of the original owners and brought her daughter to work with her constantly. Her daughter is now the current owner and head boss babe, Stacy! Stacy became the owner in 2012, and shortly after both of her daughters, Katie and Lauren (who also grew up in the shop!), came to work for Sisters as well. They are the 3 faces you are always seeing in the lives, modeling pictures, TikTok, and on their YouTube channel!
Sisters has had other locations, but they felt they couldn't keep up with them all they way they needed to, so they decided to focus on Floresville and now they are busting at the seams of their current building! That’s why, in April of 2022, they closed on their purchase of 36,000 square feet of commercial building space! They know that they are small town people and that Floresville is their home, so they are ecstatic to be further expanding their business here and bringing new businesses to our community. There is a lot to dissect on that topic, so we’ll jump into that shortly.
Stacy credits a great deal of their successful growth over the past few years to their live videos that they do each week in their app and on Facebook. The opportunity of “going live” was first presented to them at a market and they were immediately terrified of being on camera. Despite Stacy being an absolute nervous wreck on the very first live video from market and Katie literally running away from the camera, it was a huge success and opened a door that they never even knew they needed to open! Shortly after they started doing these videos, the COVID19 pandemic happened and these lives became their only way to run the business for some time. As their live videos grew, their spaces got smaller and smaller. They thought about continuing to add on to their current building, but since it is a leased space, they decided to find something of their own that they could do something good with… Cue the huge purchase!
Now that you’re all caught up, let’s talk about the new things coming and their thoughts on it all… Stacy loves what she does and she adores her community. She not only has a passion for local business owners, but even more so a passion for other women that are out there chasing their dreams. She wanted to leave a legacy for her daughters and grandchildren, but along with that she wants to be able to uplift, give more opportunities, and help other businesses chasing their dreams in our town. When asked where she sees the hospital renovation going, she says “thriving business!”. She truly has a tremendous love for helping others and hopes that her building can be the answer to others prayers and needs. Their favorite part of owning Sisters is the community. They love creating relationships with their customers, especially in their Sisters-hood group on Facebook, where women can come and have support, love one another, share about their days or needs, and just be uplifting.
Within the 36,000 square feet of Stacy’s “Hunk of Junk”, as she has so kindly deemed it, there will be around 5 different areas. To start off, the “little building” as it is called, is already in reno mode! This will be a coffee shop and bakery, and home to Coffee Corner and RX Baked Goods. There will be a relaxing vibe where you can take your family, grab a treat, enjoy some caffeine, host a meeting, study, or hang out.
After this phase will come the main building which is broken up into 4 sections. There will evidently be the expansion of Sisters, where they will be expanding their current selection of women’s and kids clothing and accessories, adding in a men’s section (not western wear!), creating a furniture and home decor wing, as well as creating new warehouse and office spaces for the expansion of the business and for Sisters to continue to grow their blossoming business.
The rest of the building will house many things, starting with a spa (you heard me right, a SPA!). This will be rented spaces for other small business owners to do their work and create a career in the spa industry here in Floresville. Here you will be able to get pampered with selfcare treatments, get your hair done, and relax in the lounge with a cocktail. Next to the spa will be a wellness center where they plan to have some workout equipment, plus classes you can sign up for like spin, pilates, and yoga to name a few. They will also rent space here for instructors and trainers to teach classes/clients. Last but not least is the largest undertaking of these phases… the restaurant and bar! This will be a cozy, cool, industrial setting. There will be the bar area where you can have drinks with friends, catch a game, or take a client for a meeting over a nice cocktail. The restaurant will carry the same vibe and will have a variety of menu items that Sisters loves and craves to have here in Floresville. There will be smaller private dining rooms for large groups (think 10-20 people), as well as the Gathering Room that can be rented out for events, parties, and meetings that are larger than 20. Outside there will be a large patio in the courtyard under the trees, where you can relax while your kids play or you enjoy the shade.
This project, on top of their normal business, takes up a lot of time and that is what Stacy and her girls say they wish people knew about their business. They want to give every customer the experience that they deserve to have when shopping with Sisters. Therefore, Stacy, Katie, and Lauren all find themselves working 7 days a week, early mornings, and super late nights just to make sure that every aspect of the business is taken care of and that customers have what they need. They try to find balance for family time and take breaks, but are so fiercely devoted to their customers. Plus they now are creating this new project for our town and other small businesses, so they say Sisters is like having a baby and that they are always “on” when it comes to the shop and customers.
If you haven't driven by the old hospital recently, you should do so! It looks completely different already and it has mainly just been landscaping clean up. I cannot wait to see where this project goes and the good that will come from it for our town. The historical importance of this building is at the front of Stacy’s mind during this renovation, and keeping the building historical, while revamping it, is what you can expect to see with this project!
