Coffee Corner
We all know I love a good cup of coffee, especially if it’s local! I am constantly bouncing back and forth between our local brews, and I have favorites at each. Here at Coffee Corner, my go-to is a hot vanilla latte, no whip. I get this almost every time, and owner Denise, makes it just right. Now with two locations open and over two years into her venture, we finally had a chance to sit down to talk about how it all started and where she sees her dreams taking her business.
Denise is the proud owner of Coffee Corner and says that the opportunity was “God sent.” She had been praying about finding a new job and career path, when COVID hit. During shut down she went to get her nails done and happened to inquire out of curiosity about the little building on the corner of Bentwood Drive and 181. Because of that small conversation, everything began falling into place for her to start her very own coffee shop. Denise says it was meant to be. There were no issues, no hurdles, no hoops. It all came together so seamlessly that she knew God had His hands over her business.
On May 4th, 2020, Coffee Corner opened its doors (AKA drive-thru windows) for business! Denise says the past 2 years have been nothing short of amazing. She loves her community and finds so much joy in getting to know everyone that has come through her drive thru. Being able to be a happy part of someone’s day is what keeps her going. Bringing people happiness, bringing the community together, or even hosting events is her favorite part of what she does. In October of 2022, Coffee Corner opened its 2nd location (and first dine-in location) at 1301 Hospital Boulevard. This is a shared space with RX Baked Goods (their joint blog post is coming soon!), at the Shops at Sisters location next to Pecan Park in Floresville. When asked what else she sees for the future of her coffee business, Denise said she would love to have multiple locations throughout the community. She wants to keep building on what she has created here. Denise prides herself on “a friendly cup of coffee.” She says customers can come as they are, and they will always get served coffee with love and care. “It’s just coffee… it’s easy, it brings joy to so many people’s mornings, days, and evenings,” is what Denise says about what she wants people to know about Coffee Corner.
As a local, small business owner, there will be highs and lows. They come hand in hand, but the highs are what keeps our dreamers going! The hardest part of owning and operating CC is employees and the economy. Denise prides herself on good coffee and customer service as we heard above, so keeping staff that knows the recipes and is great with the customers coming in is a top priority and sometimes a hard one. The economy, as we all know, has been shifting, and Denise struggles with the continuously increasing prices of goods needed to create her brews. She wants her prices to be fair and wants everyone to be able to indulge in crafted coffees. It is a constant battle between keeping prices “fair” and making the dollars needed for operations to continue. BUT, just as I said, the highs are what keeps our dreamers going! When asked about her favorite moment so far in her small business venture, Denise couldn’t pinpoint just one time. Instead, it was a feeling. The feeling of more. With pride rooted in quality, consistency, and providing something for our community, Denise knows that she can do more for the people around her and with her dreams. She has seen what she can accomplish in just a matter of 2 short years, and dreams of continuing far into the future, with so many brilliant ideas.
If you haven’t yet, stop by one of Coffee Corner’s two locations, and treat yourself to some coffee, tea, lemonade, or more. Be sure to share with your friends and family, and follow along on Instagram and Facebook. As always, thank y’all for helping me support our local dream chasers. It’s because of people like you, that our local businesses are thriving.
